Sabrina Carpenter speaks out after lip-syncing accusations
Sabrina Carpenter has spoken out after her critics accused her of lip-syncing during her concert.
A TikTok user recently shared a video of Sabrina performing her hit song Please Please Please during her 'Short n Sweet' tour. The clip showed Sabrina in a sparkly pink outfit, dancing and singing along to the music. However, the uploader's caption sparked controversy, claiming that Sabrina was only lip-syncing.
"Hate to say it but 30% lip singing 30% backtrack 40% singing," the user said.
The post was a response to another user who had questioned Sabrina's live singing abilities.
However, Sabrina quickly addressed the accusations in the clip, vehemently denying any lip-syncing and insisting that she sings live 100% at every show. She replied: "I sing live every show 100%," and asked, "Would you like to speak to my audio engineers[?]"
Fans came to the pop star's defense under the post, with some who have been to her shows saying that she sings live, while some noted that lip-syncing and using backtrack is reasonable given the laborious nature of concerts.
After addressing the rumor, the Espresso hit-maker seemed to have the backtrack removed during her show in Hartford, Connecticut, based on a fan-uploaded video on X.
Sabrina kicked off her "Short n Sweet" tour on Sept. 23, starting with the US leg and the UK and European legs following after.
Her massive hits Please Please Please and Espresso paved the way for the 25-year-old singer to earn a spot in the Grammys' Best New Artist nomination list.
