Britney Spears and Sam Asghari reportedly split after one year of marriage

Britney Spears and Sam Asghari have broken up after being married for over a year.

Several entertainment outlets, including E! Online, reported their split on Thursday, Aug. 17. An insider also confirmed it to NBC News and said “it’s best for Britney.” 

Britney and Sam started their romance in 2016 after meeting during the production of her music video for Slumber Party. They announced their engagement in 2021 and got married in June last year in Los Angeles, California. 

They fueled breakup rumors earlier this year after being spotted without their wedding bands in different cities. At the time, Sam’s representative shut down the split speculations and noted there were no issues between the two.

In June, Sam penned a short but sweet message as he marked their wedding anniversary on his Instagram stories. “Happy 1 year to me and my better half,” he wrote on a photo showing their wedding bands.

Britney was previously married to Jason Allen Alexander in 2004 and Kevin Federline from 2004 to 2007. She shares two sons named Sean and Jayden with the latter.

Britney is set to release her own memoir The Woman in Me, which she described as “my story, on my terms, at last” on Oct. 24.
