Jennylyn Mercado absent from GMA Gala to care for sick son, explains hairstylist
Jennylyn Mercado chose to miss out on this year's GMA Gala to prioritize caring for her sick son, according to her hairstylist Bianca Anne Vergara.
In case you missed it, several of GMA's brightest stars stunned on the red carpet of the Grand Ballroom of Marriott Hotel Manila for GMA's annual gala night. Also in the mix were couples such as Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes, Julie Anne San Jose and Rayver Cruz, Megan Young and Mikael Daez, and more.
One couple that fans were eagerly waiting for was Jennylyn and her husband Dennis Trillo. Much to their shock, Dennis showed up to the event alone, leading them to wonder why his wife was a no-show.
In an Instagram post, Bianca, who is a part of Jennylyn's glam team, revealed that the actress was supposed to attend but had to cancel at the last minute after her eldest son Alex Jazz came down with the flu.
"She was supposed to attend the GMA Ball. In fact, ready na kaming lahat, but sadly, nagka-emergency si Jazz (anak na panganay), nagka-trangkaso," she explained.
"So as a parent, mas naging priority lang nila ang mga anak nila kaya di naka-attend ang Ultimate Star natin. At sana po maintindihan na lang natin yung nangyari, bawi na lang kami next year," she added.
Bianca included in her post several pictures of Jennylyn all dolled up in what was supposed to be her outfit for the gala, which was a black mermaid gown that's complemented by a glamorous silver necklace.
The local star also shared her look on her own Instagram page, where she could be seen goofing off as she did several poses for the camera.
"Nandiyan si crush... act normal," she joked in the caption.
Dennis meanwhile opted for an all-white getup comprised of a classic blazer, an elegant undershirt, and a lovely bow tie, topping his look with a silver brooch.
The gala was the second event by the GMA this year in which Jennylyn was absent. She was previously missing from the network's latest Station ID, leading fans to speculate that she was transfering networks.
However, her manager, Becky Aguila, stressed that Jennylyn remains loyal to her home network where she has been an artist since 2003.
"I just want to clarify to those who keep on insinuating re: the issue of network transfer that Jennylyn is a loyal artist of GMA and will always remain loyal for as long as her mother network wants her to stay," she said.
