Sunshine Cruz reveals why she and Macky Mathay broke up after almost 6 years of being together
Sunshine Cruz openly talked about her past romance with Macky Mathay and revealed why she ended it after being together for nearly six years.
The actress first clarified in an interview with broadcast journalist Karen Davila that she had “no regrets” being with Macky. “Sa totoo lang, pagdating kasi kay Macky, hindi ko rin naman hinintay 'yan. That time, magfo-four years na akong hiwalay kay Cesar (her ex-husband). I was too focused on my children on work."
"I gave him a chance and no regrets naman, he was a good guy,” she said.
Sunshine revealed that their relationship ended a few days before their sixth anniversary after realizing that it was going nowhere. “Nakipaghiwalay ako sa kanya. Lock-in taping pa 'yun. Through message, I said na, ‘I don’t think may patutunguhan pa itong relationship.”
“Nakita ko lang na parang hindi nagle-level up ‘yung relationship, hindi nagmo-move,” she explained.
The actress, after all, emphasized that Macky is a “good guy” and that she loves his kids. “Pero syempre, at this point in my life, I am 45, syempre naghahanap na tayo ng relationship na kahit papaano ay lumelevel up—hindi ‘yung diretso lang. Kasi magsi-six years na pero parang [diretso] lang kami.”
She and Macky confirmed their relationship in 2016 after being spotted holding hands in public. Breakup rumors between them began in September 2022 after they unfollowed each other on Instagram.
Sunshine was previously with actor Cesar Montano, with whom she shares three children: Angelina Isabelle, Samantha Angeline, and Angel Franchesca.
