BLACKPINK's Jennie confirms her first solo album is coming soon: 'Please look forward to it'
The wait is almost over, Jensetters. Five years after making her solo debut in 2019, BLACKPINK's Jennie has confirmed that she is set to make her solo comeback with her first album soon.
Jennie revealed this in an interview for the October 2023 issue of Harper Bazaar Korea, where she is featured as the cover girl.
During the interview, the 27-year-old K-pop idol was asked, "What kind of concept or song genre do you want to try for your next album?"
Although Jennie did not spill many details about her album, she confirmed that is coming soon by saying, "I'm making it the most like Jennie and unique to Jennie. Please look forward to it."
Her announcement comes five years after she made her solo debut with the song SOLO in November 2018. It also comes days after BLACKPINK concluded their "BORN PINK" tour in Seoul last Sept. 17.
Apart from their group activities, the BLACKPINK vocalist and rapper debuted as an actress in the HBO series The Idol alongside The Weekend, Lily-Rose Depp, Troye Sivan, and Suzanne Son.
The show was canceled by the television network after one season without disclosing the reasons. Prior to HBO's announcement, The Idol was embroiled in several controversies on how several cast members left the show mid-production and how its story has a "disturbing" creative direction that allegedly promotes "rape fantasies" and "torture porn."
Still and all, Jennie told Harper Bazaar that she looks back on her acting journey as something to be grateful for. The K-pop idol said, "It's overwhelming but I'm grateful and thankful. All of those things at the same time. Especially as it's the first step in my acting career, I was honored to be able to come."
"It was an opportunity to just be myself and be brave," she added, noting that the show's director, Sam Levinson, didn't put any pressure on her acting.
"I didn't really train for it or prep anything... Sam wanted me to just be myself," Jennie said.
Should the launch of her solo album push through this year, it would put an end to the long wait of Jensetters and BLINKs which began when Jennie's album was first announced in 2021. It also comes close to BLACKPINK's rumored comeback in the last quarter of 2023.
