WINNER’s Song Mino under investigation for alleged violation of military service act
WINNER’s Song Mino is under investigation for allegedly neglecting his duties as a public service worker in the military.
According to a K-media outlet Soompi report, Seoul Mapo Police said that they had booked the K-pop idol for his possible violation of the Military Service Act, as requested by the Military Manpower Administration (MMA).
“We have requested a police investigation into Song Mino for violating the Military Service Act. After conducting an internal review, we determined that certain matters required further confirmation by the police,” an official from the MMA said on Dec. 26. A summons date has yet to be decided.
The police are now reviewing the details of the MMA’s request to determine if Song Mino breached the Military Service Act. If the allegations of negligence are confirmed, his discharge may be revoked, and he will be required to serve additional time to account for the period in question.
If the allegations of Mino’s negligence are confirmed to be true, his discharge may be void, and he may be required to return to serve additional time equivalent to the period in question.
This came after a Dispatch report said the K-pop idol is suspected of having been negligent in his duties during his serving time. It also alleged that Mino traveled abroad in October and was not present at work even after that, with the facility explaining that he was on "sick leave," "annual leave" or "was hospitalized,” per a report by The Korea Times.
His agency, YG Entertainment, immediately denied the allegations on Dec. 17.
“It is difficult for us to confirm specific details regarding Song Mino’s service. However, the medical leave was an extension of the treatment he had been receiving prior to his service,” it said. “All other leaves, including annual leaves, were used in accordance with regulations.”
Mino was officially discharged from alternative military service on Dec. 23.
Mino debuted in the K-pop scene as part of the boy group WINNER alongside Jin-woo, Seung-yoon, and Seung-hoon.
