Calling all music lovers and collectors: Mike Hanopol's P550,000 guitar, rare OPM vinyl records up for auction
Let's face it, we all have that inner collector in us who wouldn't mind owning a piece of pop culture history or collecting items from our childhood. Auctions like gavel&block, the Salcedo Auctions subsidiary for emerging collectors, have something for enthusiasts as it has announced its lineup of rare items for its first online auction of the year.
Music lovers are in for a treat as an auction house will feature pop memorabilia from homegrown music legends, such as items belonging to Pinoy rock pioneer Mike Hanopol and vinyl records from the likes of Sharon Cuneta, Nora, Aunor, Gary Valenciano, and more.
For this year's event, Hanopol’s beloved Steinberger guitar with his signature is up for grabs, estimated to cost P450,000 to P550,000. But that's not all as you also have the chance to bring home several of his vintage jackets as well as an album collection spanning four decades of his hit songs.
If you're a collector of vinyl records, then you'd be pleased to know that you can bid for Sharon Cuneta's Bituing Walang Ningning (P8,000 to 10,000) and High School: Sharon Cuneta's Greatest Hits (P8,000 to P10,000); Nora Aunor's Superstar (P5,000 to P8,000); and Gary Valenciano's Hotshots (P10,000 to P12,000) records.
Another rare item that may interest you is a framed uncut sheet of the P500 bill from the New Design Series, which was first issued in 1987 and lasted until 2013.
The note features the portrait of Benigno Aquino Jr. and has two of his popular quotes: "Faith in our people and faith in God" and "The Filipino is worth dying for." The estimated bid for the item is from P12,000 to P16,000.
If you're a comic book fanatic, there's also a series of comics that will take you back to your favorite character’s early years, from the Hulk to Spiderman, Batman and Robin, among many others.
The auction will also cater to art, decor, and jewelry collectors as it will have local artist Yeo Kaa’s Adidas shoes (P7,000 to P10,000) and skate deck for Progress (P10,000 to P14,000), Elmer Borlongan’s Hari Sonik for Secret Fresh (P50,000 to P60,000), and BenCab’s limited edition Sabel watch for Swatch (P14,000 to 16,000) up for bidding.
There will also be a selection of paintings, furniture, and other one-of-a-kind collectibles that are going under the hammer.

gavel&block’s "pop!" online auction will commence on Feb. 3 at 11 a.m., but you can preview the items up to Feb. 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the NEX Tower in Makati City. You can view the entire catalog through their website.
