Netflix rolls out ‘Stranger Things’ mobile games in Android App in Poland

Streaming giant Netflix is taking its next step into the world of video games by allowing select subscribers to discover games based on their shows within its Android App.

The company announced last week that two Stranger Things mobile games are now searchable within Netflix’s Android app for subscribers in Poland.

Members in Poland can try Netflix mobile gaming on Android with two games, Stranger Things: 1984 and Stranger Things 3: The Game, as part of their membership.

“It’s still very, very early days and we will be working hard to deliver the best possible experience in the months ahead with our no ads, no in-app purchases approach to gaming,” according to Netflix.

Netflix’s Polish team shared a look at how the games would appear in the app in a tweet reshared by @NetflixGeeked, with the available games showing up in the home feed.

It should be noted that games aren’t being streamed to the device directly via the Netflix App. Viewers can select a game’s icon to learn more about the game and tap a button to download it, which will take them to the Google Play store to download it separately.

The two retro-styled Stranger Things games can also be directly downloaded via Google Play.

After the game is downloaded, when you open it up to try and play it, you’ll be asked to log in with your Netflix credentials before you can start playing the ad-free version, a Netflix spokesperson told The Verge.

This isn’t the first time Netflix has experimented with gaming-like content that puts viewers in control over “choose your own adventure” type stories.

The streaming service has interactive titles like Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Minecraft: Story Mode, and Carmen Sandiego: To Steal or Not to Steal, among others.

Netflix reportedly plans to create more games based on its original TV shows and films, as well as introduce completely new games and license some titles.

The company reportedly had several Stranger Things projects in development with Telltale Games, the award-winning studio responsible for the interactive The Walking Dead games, before the studio collapsed in 2018.

In case you haven't played the games yet and want to check them out, you can download Stranger Things: 1984 here and Stranger Things 3: The Game here.
