‘Interview with the Vampire’ will have a series adaptation

The series adaptation to Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire has been greenlit by the AMC Network.

Fans of the 1994 Hollywood film adaptation, which starred Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, will finally get to see Lestat and Louis onscreen once again. 

American cable network AMC has acquired the rights to Rice’s book series The Vampire Chronicles, The Lives of the Mayfair Witches, and 18 of her other books. AMC ordered an eight-part series for the first installment of Interview with the Vampire and are eyeing a 2022 premiere both on AMC and AMC Plus.

The network is hoping to turn Rice’s novels into a TV series franchise with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul producer Mark Johnson heading the production. Rolin Jones is reported to be the creator, showrunner, and writer of the Interview series.

Published in 1976, Interview with the Vampire by Rice is a gothic horror novel and centers around the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac who recalls his 200-year tragic life story to a journalist, Daniel Molloy. The novel was written by Rice after the death of her young daughter who became the inspiration for one of the novel’s main characters, Claudia.

“In 1973, a grieving mother and extraordinary writer began what would become the finest vampire novel ever written,” Jones said.

“Nearly fifty years later we know what’s expected of us. We know how much this book and the ones that follow mean to their massive fan base. We feel you over our shoulders as we tend the Savage Garden. Louis and Lestat are coming out of hiding and we can’t wait to reunite them with you,” he added in a statement.

Castings for Lestat, Louis, and Claudia are yet to be announced, and further details of the production have yet to be disclosed.
