Taylor Lautner on upcoming 'Speak Now (Taylor's Version)': 'I feel safe, praying for John'
Taylor Lautner is feeling good about his ex Taylor Swift's upcoming album release.
In his recent guest appearance on TODAY, the actor shared his thoughts about the project dubbed Speak Now (Taylor's Version). It will include a re-recorded piece of Back to December—a song that's widely known to have been written by Swift about her previous relationship with Lautner.
"I think it's a great album. Yeah, I feel safe. Praying for John," he said, referring to Swift's other ex John Mayer, for whom she reportedly wrote Dear John.
In Back to December, Swift asks for forgiveness from her former lover (said to be Lautner) through a song. She dated Lautner in the early part of 2009 after meeting on the set of romantic comedy Valentine's Day, but broke up months later.
Lautner is now married to Taylor Dome, who once referred to Speak Now as "one of the best albums of all time." According to a report by PEOPLE, Dome also called herself an "OG T-Swift fan" and said that the lyrics on the album "are insane."
Dear John, meanwhile, talks about Swift's toxic relationship with an ex, rumored to be Mayer. They had a brief romance from 2009 to 2012 when she was 19 and he was 32.
The Gravity singer, in a 2012 interview with Rolling Stone, said that the song made him “feel terrible.”
“I didn’t deserve it. I’m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do,” he added.
Speak Now (Taylor's Version) is slated for release on July 7, two years after the release of Fearless (Taylor's Version) in April 2021. She is also busy with her Eras tour that's set to conclude in August.
