Kris Aquino hints at possible 'Crazy Rich Asians 2' appearance
If thousands of rom-com aficionados were spellbound by the 2018 hit film Crazy Rich Asians, you could only imagine how exciting it is to be part of its promising cast. Kris Aquino is not one to gloss over it, as she hinted at the possibility of reappearing in the film's sequel China Rich Girlfriend.
Kris revealed it in her virtual press conference for e-commerce site Shopee on Tuesday, October 20. The Social Media Queen disclosed that author of the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy Kevin Kwan has already told her about her character Princess Intan being potentially invited to another major event. In the sequel, that would be Rachelle Chu's wedding to Nick Young.
She recalled, "I asked him because the opening of China Rich Girlfriend is the wedding. So I asked him, 'Am I going to be in the wedding? Is Princess Intan invited in the wedding?' And he said, 'Of course! Because you’re the one who gave her her validation in Crazy Rich Asians. I said, 'Oh my gosh, hope it happens!'"
Kris revealed she and Kevin becoming "consistent WhatsApp friends" since her stint with Crazy Rich Asians. And so, yes, she basically inspired Kevin to include some traces of her own family in the book.
"He was asking me where did they go to school in the 1950s? This is for 'Sex and Vanity.' I would imagine that it was where your mom went to school. Then I said, 'Yeah, my mom went to school in Scholastica, then she went to Assumption and then she went to the States. And then he used the school in the States where my mom went. Because my mom went to a school in Philadelphia where Princess Grace of Monaco actually went. That’s included in the book. Then the sisters who are there, they have a cousin named Kris who owns the biggest talent agency in the Philippines and they were telling the girl that she should be a model and that Kris is me. And I said, Thanks Kevin!"
In fact, Kris has gotten Kevin very interested about the country, as he would keep asking her "on certain things in reference to the Philippines."
