Why we're excited for Tom Holland to step into Fred Astaire's dancing shoes in an upcoming biopic
Tom Holland has big shoes to fill in his next role as Fred Astaire aka the man widely known as the greatest dancer in film history.
The English actor confirmed this while promoting Spider-Man: No Way Home in London. "The script came in a week ago. I haven't read it yet; they haven't given it to me."
Producer Amy Pascal, who earlier said that she wanted Holland to play Astaire in November, has received the script for the Sony biopic. “[Pascal] FaceTimed me earlier. I was in the bath,” Holland said. “And we had a lovely FaceTime, but I will be playing Fred Astaire.”
As the legendary performer, Holland will be doing a lot of singing and dancing for the role. And based on the 25-year-old actor's background, he's got the chops for it.
Tom's got the moves
Did you know that the Spidey star began his acting career on the West End stage? He starred in Billy Elliot the Musical in 2007 and took two years of ballet for the role.
On top of that, Holland showed that his dancing skills were on point in 2017 when he guested on Lip Sync Battle alongside Spider-Man co-star Zendaya. He stunned the audience by performing a mashup of Singin' in the Rain and Rihanna's Umbrella.
Aside from playing Astaire, Holland is slated to reprise his role as Spider-Man in three more movies, as Pascal confirmed.
Amazon Studios is also working on an Astaire biopic with Jamie Bell playing the legendary performer.
