The great de-bathe: Why are Hollywood celebrities' hygiene habits trending?
If you've been scrolling through Twitter in the past few days, you've likely found drones of tweets either attacking or defending Hollywood celebrities for...their bathing preferences. It's a weird world we live in right now.
The conversation started back in July when celebrity couple Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis revealed that they didn't make it a habit to bathe their two children every day.
"I didn't have hot water growing up as a child, so I didn't shower much anyway," Kunis shared in the Armchair Expert podcast hosted by fellow celebrity Dax Shepherd. "But when I had children, I also didn't wash them every day."
"Now, here's the thing: If you can see the dirt on them, clean them. Otherwise, there's no point," Kutcher added.
While that would have been the end of the discussion, the trend prompted the question of more Hollywood celebrities and their hygiene habits. Actress Kirsten Bell went on to say in an interview with Daily Blast Live that "It's not so much of a joke that I wait for the stink" from her children, which further set the online debate.
Bell sees it as an environmental choice as well: "It’s just, like, responsibility for your environment. We don’t have a ton of water, so when I shower, I’ll grab the girls and push them in there with me so we all use the same shower water," she explained.
Jake Gyllenhaal reignited the topic in the past few days when he shared with Vanity Fair that he found the act of bathing to be, well, unnecessary.
"More and more I find bathing to be less necessary, at times," the 40-year-old said. "I do believe because Elvis Costello is wonderful, that good manners and bad breath get you nowhere. So I do that."
"I do also think that there's a whole world of not bathing that is also really helpful for skin maintenance, and we naturally clean ourselves."
Meanwhile, stars like Chris Evans and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson have gone on the defense to clarify that they, in fact, bathe on the regular. Again, it's a weird time.

Shower (cold) when I roll outta bed to get my day rollin’.
Shower (warm) after my workout before work.
Shower (hot) after I get home from work.
Face wash, body wash, exfoliate and I sing (off key) in the shower ? ? https://t.co/iE6ZPhrthL
With the question now being a hot topic in Hollywood, Aquaman star Jason Momoa is the latest addition to the de-bathe—and he answered the question perfectly.
"I’m not starting any trends. I shower, trust me,” Momoa said in an interview with Access Hollywood. "I’m Aquaman. I’m in the f*cking water. Don’t worry about it. I’m Hawaiian. We got saltwater on me. We good.”
Will Hollywood finally get more substantial news soon enough? Or is this an underlying effect of the COVID-19 pandemic going on for way too long? Either way, here are the Twitter's best reactions:
