'Star Wars' fanfiction 'The Love Hypothesis' to get film adaptation
Good news for fans of The Love Hypothesis as the hit romance novel that started out as Star Wars fanfiction will soon be adapted into a feature film.
In a report by Deadline, MRC Film's romance label Bisous Pictures has partnered with the book's author Ali Hazelwood to adapt her best-selling story for the big screens.
Elizabeth Cantillon, a producer and principal of Bisous Pictures, highlighted that they are "thrilled to be working with Ali to amplify her voice and bring this magical book to the screen."
Hazelwood meanwhile said, "It’s a true privilege to have Elizabeth and such a talented and experienced team of people working on adapting The Love Hypothesis, and I’m very excited for this next step in Olive and Adam’s story."
Published in 2021, the novel follows third-year Ph.D. candidate Olive Smith as she enters into a fake relationship with her young professor Adam Carlsen to convince her best friend to think that her dating life is going great.
Adam agrees to keep her charade a secret and pretend to be her boyfriend, but what started as a fake relationship later turns complicated as the two grow closer to one another.
Hazelwood originally published The Love Hypothesis as a Star Wars fan fiction titled Head over Feet. The story centers around the "Reylo" ship between Star Wars characters Rey and Kylo Ren, played by Daisey Ridley and Adam Driver respectively.
Despite the main leads being renamed Olive and Adam and having all explicit Star Wars references cut, the book's cover illustration was still designed after Ridley and Driver.
The Love Hypothesis has since gotten rave reviews from critics and has been on The New York Times Best Sellers list for 39 weeks.
Details on the film adaptation's cast, director, and release date have yet to be disclosed.
