It looks like Liza Soberano is already a fan favorite in her first Hollywood film!

In an interview with TV Patrol, Lisa Frankenstein director Zelda Williams recalled how she encouraged Liza to audition for the horror comedy film, highlighting that she wanted her to join the cast because she was a "brilliant" actress.

"When you have to hire people to play sisters, the dynamic is so important," Zelda said, referring to Liza's role as Taffy, the stepsister to the titular character Lisa.

She continued, "I think Liza thought I was kidding originally when I told her that she should come in and read for the movie and read the script. I think she was like, 'No, you don't want me in your movie.' And I went, 'Yes, I do, you're brilliant.'"

Zelda shared that she met the local star through mutual friends in Los Angeles while she was struggling to cast the part of Taffy.

"I really wanted someone who could play someone so earnest and sweet and loving, and everyone was kind of playing it very mean no matter what notes I gave them," Zelda explained.

"Truthfully, I asked [Liza] myself, I was like, 'Please, will you tape for this. I think you're right for it.' And everyone fell in love with her. She's most people's favorite part of this whole movie," she added.

The filmmaker went on to highlight that Liza is "the biggest star" in her heart.

A coming-of-age love story, Lisa Frankenstein follows a misunderstood teenager as she reanimates a handsome corpse, who also happens to be her high school crush. The sudden, strange circumstance then leads them to embark on a murderous journey to find love, happiness, "and a few missing body parts along the way."

Joining Liza in the cast are Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse.

The film marks the directorial debut of Zelda, who is the daughter of the late Robin Williams. It will premiere in Philippine cinemas on Feb. 7.
