'La La Land' to get Broadway adaptation

The award-winning 2016 romantic musical film La La Land is getting a stage adaptation on Broadway.

According to Variety, Bartlett Sherr—who's a winner of the prestigious Tony Award for theater—will be directing the stage adaptation, with the book written by playwrights Ayad Akhtar and Matthew Decker.

Like the Damien Chazelle-helmed movie, the play will feature music from Justin Hurwitz, who also collaborated with Chazelle on the Oscar-winning Whiplash. The lyrics will come from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the duo whose work includes The Greatest Showman and the Tony-winning Dear Evan Hansen.

Dates and cast have yet to be announced, Variety reported.

La La Land revolves around a struggling jazz pianist Seb (portrayed by Ryan Gosling in the movie), who falls in love with an aspiring actress Mia (portrayed by Emma Stone in the movie). They pursue their respective dreams in Los Angeles, as their relationship takes a strain.

The movie won several awards, including Oscars best director for Chazelle, best actress for Stone, best original score for Hurwitz, and best original song City of Stars for Hurwitz, Pasek, and Paul. It also swept the seven nominations it received at the 2017 Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture.
