Attention, gamers: Sony announces handheld device 'Project Q' that can stream PS5 games
Sony will launch later this year a new accessory for the PlayStation 5 (PS5) that seeks to switch up home console gaming.
Known internally for now as "Project Q," the newly announced dedicated handheld device is designed to play PS5 games by streaming using Remote Play over Wi-Fi.
Project Q has an 8-inch LCD screen capable of up to 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second.
It also has all of the DualSense Wireless Controller's buttons and features, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.
According to a PlayStation Showcase 2023 video, games must be installed on your PS5 console itself to be streamed on Project Q.
It is also not compatible with games that require a VR headset (PlayStation VR or PlayStation VR2) or additional peripherals (other than a DUALSHOCK 4, DualSense, or DualSense Edge wireless controller). Similarly, games that must be streamed on PS5 using a PS Plus Premium membership are not compatible.
The design and specifications of the showcased product are also subject to change pending its release.
"We’re investing heavily in the future with innovative best-in-class hardware like PlayStation VR2 and the newly revealed Project Q, and our expansion into PC, Mobile, and Live Service gaming is transforming how and where our content can be enjoyed," Sony Interactive Entertainment president and chief executive officer Jim Ryan said.
Sony has sold at least 38.4 million PS5 units, according to its latest consolidated financial results report dated April 28.
