LIST: Kid-friendly activities for a fun, productive summer

Make the most out of this heat by going on a waterpark adventure. Wetpark Adventure Lagoon, the country’s first indoor aqua playground, lets kids (and kids at heart) try out various water activities (and challenges) such as finishing the rope course, lots of water slides, water splashes, and even ziplining.

Visit Intramuros 

A trip to Intramuros is one of the most meaningful and affordable ways to spend your summer break. Escape the city noise by stepping into a seemingly time machine, as you let your kids learn more about the history of Manila inside the walled city. 

To make it more enjoyable for the kids, try going around the different historical spots in Intramuros using a bamboo bike.

Attend a theater workshop 

Let your kids hone their dancing, singing, and acting skills by enrolling them in Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA)'s summer workshops.

Immerse the children in fun, creative activities for P13,000 good for 10 sessions (4 hours each session). 

Courses on the art of rhythmic movement, dance, puppetry, storytelling, and more are available for children ages 6 to 8 years old. Kids and teens aged 9 to 12 years old can learn about music, poetry, visual arts, story writing, storytelling, and drama improvisation. 

Sessions for Batch 1 will be from May to June, while sessions for Batch 2 will be in July. Register here.

Learn how to bake 

Another skill that your kids can learn this summer is baking. The Maya Kitchen will be offering a baking class in celebration of Mother’s Day. Introduce cooking and baking to your kids in a meaningful way by joining Chef Carla and her daughter, Nikki's special class on May 7 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. 

The special class is priced at P2,000 for a hands-on workshop and P1,800 if you want to attend via Zoom. For online attendees, a course outline, a recipe card, and a preparation sheet—which includes a shopping list, equipment needed, and set-up tips will be sent to you 2 days before the event.

Try pottery-making

If your child wants something different, try pottery making. The Tahanan Pottery offers a pottery workshop where kids will learn basic hand-building techniques in creating art with clay. 

For P9,000, kids will be immersed in the art of pottery making for two hours, where they will learn how to create plates, an Imaginary Cultural Mask, and Treasure Box Making. They will also be taught how to use underglaze paints in decorating their works.

The fee is inclusive of pottery-making needs such as clay, underglaze paints, glazes, firing, and a certificate.

Spend the day in an interactive museum

Nothing beats the fun of discovering science in an interactive way. The Mind Museum offers over 250 interactive exhibits for you to enjoy.  

The museum is open every Wednesday to Sunday. A regular ticket is priced at P625 for adults and P475 good for three hours. Birthday celebrants are free of entrance, given that at least two paying companions are accompanying them.

If you think three hours isn’t enough to explore, an all-day pass is priced at P750. School, government, or PWD IDs must be presented upon purchase.
