BTS needs no permission to break records as ‘Permission to Dance’ tops Billboard charts

Published Jul 20, 2021 5:16 pm

BTS needs no permission to make music history as their feel-good track Permission to Dance debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. This ends the seven-week streak of their previous dance-pop single Butter

According to Billboard, the song reached 15.9 million streams, 1.1 million radio airplay audience impressions, and sold 140,100 downloads a week after its release.

Permission to Dance is BTS’ fourth song to top the Billboard Hot 100 charts, following Butter, Dynamite, and Life Goes On. The song also topped the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Excl. US charts.

To date, BTS is the fifth group in Billboard history to replace itself at the top of the Hot 100 following The Beatles, Boyz II Men, Outkast, and Black Eyed Peas

The septet is also the first group to replace themselves on the Billboard Hot 100 with both songs that started at No. 1.

As of this writing, BTS is the third musical act with four No. 1 songs on the Hot 100 aside from Justin Bieber and Drake. American singer Ariana Grande leads all acts with five No. 1 hits.

BTS expressed their gratitude to their fans on Twitter. The members also posted heartfelt messages on paid artist-to-fan communications app Weverse.

Congratulations to BTS and ARMYs for this achievement!
