Published Aug 09, 2022 11:17 am

As we mourn the loss of an unforgettable figure in the Filipino film industry, the outpouring of love for Cherie Gil's craft continues.

Dubbed as the La Primera Contravida for her riveting portrayals of iconic antagonists through the years, Cherie has solidified herself as an actress that truly steps into a role and makes it her own.

To remember her early years in the industry, Regal Entertainment has updated 'The Life and Work of Cherie Gil' collection on YouTube, showcasing the artist's career spanning nearly 50 years. Here are the titles included in their list.

Sugar Daddy (1977) and Beerhouse (1977)

Way before her kontrabida roles, Cherie was a child actor whose potential was unparalleled. With her prominent features and budding talent, she was placed in small roles that solidified her place in showbiz down the line.

Problem Child (1980)

At 17, Cherie Gil portrayed the lead role in Elwood Perez's Problem Child after having worked with the director for almost three years. She plays a girl on the edge of adulthood opposite Lloyd Samartino.

Manila By Night (1980)

Dubbed as the breakout role for the star, Ishmael Bernal’s Manila By Night sees Cherie in a much more mature role compared to her other portrayals as a child actor, as the film brought in controversy at the time for its themes of drugs, prostitution, domestic abuse, and more.

Ito Ba Ang Ating Anak (1982)

Cherie once again worked with director Ishmael Bernal for this film about a group of young adults in the 1980s navigating what it means to grow up.

True enough, it's tagline reads "You are about to watch a motion picture about a group of lost and confused youth. So powerful, it hits you with a punch. This is your story. Pare, mabigat!"

Too Young (1990)

This action-thriller sees Cherie opposite the likes of Aiko Melendez, Eric Quizon, and Aga Muhlach. This would be one of the last films that Gil would portray before her hiatus.

Sugatang Puso (2000)

Sugatang Puso isn't just a classic Cherie Gil dramatic portrayal, as it also serves as her showbiz comeback after taking a break in 1994 to focus on her family.

Proving that she still has the acting prowess, this role earned Gil the Best Supporting Actress Award during the 2000 Metro Manila Film Festival.

Meanwhile, Gil's other iconic portrayals such as Bituin Walang Ningning can be watched on YouTube Movies for rent (P220) and sale (P760). Her last teleserye Legal Wives is also available on Netflix
