Sometimes, you need to be surrounded by books to really relax.

With lockdown restrictions easing, a number of people are now looking for other means to find the quiet apart from the comfort of their homes. Although the Philippines is in need of more public spaces such as parks, did you know that we hold a treasure trove of libraries in the metro?

Whether you're looking for a place to discover new reads, study, or simply be around the comfort of books, here are a few top-tier local libraries that welcomes people of all ages. Make sure to contact the following libraries before paying a visit.

National Library of the Philippines, Ermita

The National Library of the Philippines in Ermita, Manila has reopened its reading rooms for silent reading and research activities. The service is open from 9 AM to 3 PM, free of charge. Visitors must book an appointment beforehand at NLP's online form here.

Filipinas Heritage Library, Ayala Museum

Ayala Museum's Filipinas Heritage Library is one of the most underrated places to stay for some quiet. Serving as half co-working space and resource center, visitors need to pay P300 (P180 for students and P200 for seniors/PWDs) to stay in the well-lit and quiet quarters.

Aside from an onsite visit, students and researchers can also book a consultation with a librarian for their research work.

Ortigas Foundation Library

Located in the heart of the central business district, Ortigas Foundation Library serves as a refuge away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It offers over 23,000 titles through their research and conservation program.

They also have available researchers to aid information-hungry visitors.
