Lady Gaga confirms casting in 'Joker' sequel opposite Joaquin Phoenix

After months of speculation, Gaga has finally confirmed her part in the highly anticipated Joker sequel.

On Friday, August 5, Lady Gaga officially teased her new role for Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux on Twitter. Gaga is set to act alongside Joaquin Phoenix who previously won an Academy Award for best actor following his role as Joker from the 2019 film.

The graphic art of the sequel’s teaser briefly showcased the silhouette of Gaga and Phoenix in an intimate moment as they danced to the song Cheek to Cheek.

Though no announcement has confirmed Gaga’s role in the film, a June 13 article from Variety reported that the actress is gearing up to star as Harley Quinn, an iconic villain from DC who is known for her twisted relationship with Joker.

Joker: Folie à Deux is set to be released on October 4, 2024, exactly five years after the first 2019 installment of the blockbuster film. The film’s subtitle Folie à Deux refers to a shared delusional disorder between two individuals, which may define the relationship between Gaga's character opposite Joaquin Phoenix's Joker in the upcoming musical sequel.

Phillips' Joker was released in 2019 as a standalone film following the journey of Arthur Fleck, a lonely party clown in Gotham City who was shunned by society. The film received critical acclaim and earned 11 Oscar nominations. It won two Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Actor for Phoenix.
