Nicola Coughlan reveals why she ‘specifically asked’ to be ‘very naked’ in ‘Bridgerton’ Season 3

Nicola Coughlan, who plays the role of Penelope Featherington in Bridgerton, talked about her decision to be “very naked” in a scene for the hit series’ third season.

In a new interview with digital magazine Stylist, the Irish actress revealed that she “specifically asked” for certain lines and moments to become part of the show's latest installment. “There’s one scene where I’m very naked on camera and that was my idea, my choice,” she said.

It turned out to be “amazingly empowering” for the 37-year-old star. “It just felt like the biggest 'f—k you' to all the conversation surrounding my body," she mused. "It was amazingly empowering. I felt beautiful in the moment, and I thought: 'When I'm 80, I want to look back on this and remember how f—king hot I looked!'"

“Not only did I consent to it but I drove it,” emphasized Nicola.

Nicola shared that the she worked closely with intimacy coordinator, Lizzy Talbot, in pulling off her intimate scenes with Luke Newton, who portrays her friend-turned-romantic partner Colin Bridgerton in the series. She said they both found it liberating.“By the end of the day, we were both lying under a blanket, not clothed, just chillin’. We were like, ‘This is why nudists do it.’”

Bridgerton revolves around the love conquests of eight Bridgerton family members. It's based on the romance book series of Julia Quinn.

The Netflix offering's third season arrived on the streaming platform this month. It's divided into two parts, with the release of the first four episodes being on May 16 and the rest on June 13.
