Instagram to roll out feature that lets you create custom AI chatbots of yourself

Meta is rolling out a new tool called AI Studio which allows users to create their own AI chatbot versions of themselves.

With the tool, users can build virtual characters with their own traits, personalities, and interests.

One of the uses of this feature is to help creators and business owners interact with their followers using the AI chatbot.

However, it can also be used for entertainment, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. "You can basically role-play that and see how the conversation will go, and get feedback on it," he said.

According to Meta's website, users can create two types of AI chatbots: a creator AI that is an extension of them or an AI character based on their interests.

With creator AI, users will be able to choose the content to train the tech on like your Instagram and Threads content, facts about you, topics to avoid or not respond to, and links to share.

They will also have control over who engages with the chatbot and which apps it's shared.

Meanwhile, those who wish to bring their passions and interests to life can do so with an AI character. This tool makes use of generative AI so you can, for instance, make an interior designer with whom you can bounce off ideas.

Additionally, Meta's blog post stated that responses from custom chatbots will be clearly labeled as AI replies for full transparency for fans.

AI chatbots can be created through the Instagram app or via web. It can also be deleted from the app entirely.

Currently, AI Studio is only available in the US but Meta is planning to take the technology to the rest of the world.

Some creators in the US already have their AI chatbots which can be accessed by tapping on the sparkles emoji (✨) on their profile on Instagram mobile.

Meta recently launched its most powerful AI language model, Llama 3.1, to rival ChatGPT.
