Got beautiful shots of UP pandemic life? Join the UP Photo Awards and get the chance to win P100k
Listen up, photography enthusiasts! The University of the Philippines (UP) is launching its first-ever no-entry-fee online photo competition this Nov. 15: the UP Photo Awards.
The contest, with the theme "UP in the time of pandemic," encourages Filipinos from all walks of life to submit photos of the campus, the nature found in it, buildings, the people inside UP, and more in five categories.
-
People Category. This category shall be for people inside UP campuses. They may be images of the university’s employees, faculty, staff, utility workers, or just about anybody inside the borders of the campuses.
-
Architecture Category. This category is open for images of the university’s structures. They may be images of building edifices, complexes, and mostly empty hallways, lecture halls, and classrooms. Entries can take creative approaches in terms of rhythm and repetitions, patterns and shapes, as well as color and texture combinations.
-
Nature Category. This category will feature images of the ecosystem of fauna and flora, and animals such as migratory birds, insects, and organisms found inside UP campuses.
-
News Category. The News Category is expected to be the most “action-packed” category, showcasing how UP dealt with Covid-19 beginning with long-term lockdowns. This category anticipates photos of the UP Philippine General Hospital, and of events such as community pantries within the campuses, and rallies, among similar photographs.
-
Pre-Covid Category. This category is for images captured from Jan. 1, 2019 up to Mar. 14, 2020, the day before the Philippine government instituted the first lockdown on Mar. 15, 2020. This category is open for images that show the busy life on the campuses before the lockdowns and quarantines.
The competition accepts entries from anywhere in the world and is judged by a panel of reputable jurors using a proprietary voting system. Photos submitted can be taken with digital cameras, smartphones, GoPro, and drones, as long as the entry falls within category guidelines.
Each category will have a winning photo, with each winner taking home a cash prize of P25,000. Honorable mentions will also be picked out from the pool of entries.
All winners and honorable mention awardees will get the chance to compete for the Best Photograph Award, which has a P100,000 prize in store.
UP President Danilo Concepcion, who conceived the idea of the competition, said he intends to create a picture book about the UP Community amid the pandemic.
Anybody who wishes to join can submit their photos to www.upphotoawards.com from Nov. 15, 2021 to Feb. 15, 2022.
