Breaking the stigma: K-pop stars who are currently married
It’s time to normalize K-pop stars who get married to their partners. Behind the glitz and glamor of the industry, they’re also human beings who deserve love.
Sadly, dating and marriage remain taboo in the K-pop industry as many stars have suffered the wrath of “disappointed” fans through the years. Fortunately, there are several artists who are determined to break the stigma.
Let’s take a look at some K-pop stars who tied the knot with their significant others.
EXO’s Chen
EXO’s main vocalist and soloist Chen shocked fans after he announced in January 2020 that he’s getting married to his non-celebrity wife who’s pregnant with their first child. He also made fans swoon after revealing that his wife is someone he wants “to spend the rest of my life with.”
On Nov. 16, Chen is going to become a father of two after it was confirmed that his wife is pregnant with their second child.
TVXQ’s Changmin
In June 2020, TVXQ’s Changmin revealed that he wants to “continue my life together” with his non-celebrity girlfriend. He also expressed his gratitude to fellow member Yunho who “supported my decision and was happy for me.”
The pair got married in a private ceremony in October 2020 after several postponements due to the rise of COVID-19 cases in South Korea.
Big Bang’s Taeyang
Big Bang’s main vocalist and main dancer Taeyang tied the knot with actress Min Hyorin in February 2018. The pair first met in 2014, when Hyorin starred in his music video for the track 1 AM. The “lowkey” wedding ceremony was attended by former 2NE1 members CL and Sandara Park, PSY, and Big Bang’s Daesung and Seungri.
In September 2021, it was confirmed that the celebrity couple is expecting their first child.
Crayon Pop Soyul and H.O.T’s Heejun
In February 2017, Crayon Pop’s Soyul and H.O.T’s Heejun officially tied the knot after news of their surprise engagement broke out months earlier. The celebrity couple got married in a private ceremony but held a press conference and photo wall for their fans. They currently have one child named Seunjae.
Despite their 13-year age gap, Heejun described Soyul as a “vitamin” in his day-to-day activities.
FTISLAND’s Minhwan and former Laboum member Yulhee
FTISLAND’s Minhwan and former LABOUM member Yulhee got married in a private ceremony in October 2018. Their wedding was attended by N.Flying’s Seunghyub and Hweseung along with FTISLAND’s Jaejin and Seunghyun, who presided over the ceremony. The couple currently has three children.
In Korean variety show Mr. House Husband, Yulhee revealed that she learned how to manage the family finances with the help of her mother-in-law.
Super Junior’s Sungmin
Super Junior’s Sungmin tied the knot with musical actress Kim Saeun in December 2014 in a private wedding. Their relationship was revealed in September of the same year, even if they’ve been dating for a “long time.” Their wedding was attended by Super Junior, Red Velvet, Boa, f(x)’s Amber and Victoria, and Sistar’s Bora, among others.
Despite being married for almost seven years, several netizens accused Sungmin of “mistreating” his fans. He has been on hiatus from Super Junior after netizens protested his appearance in group activities.
