'RuPaul's Drag Race' season 14 brings the competition's first-ever straight male contestant

Another season of RuPaul's Drag Race is coming soon!

Season 14, which premieres on Jan. 7, 2022, is already one for the books: it will introduce the show's first-ever straight, cisgender male contestant in its herstory.

Maddy Morphosis, one of the 14 contestants vying for the Next Drag Superstar crown, will be the first heterosexual to sashay their way into the Werk Room. This small-town camp and comedy queen from Fayetteville, Arkansas will bring quirky performances that will shake up the competition.

"There's always got to be a wild card," Maddy said in the season 14 teaser.

The new crop of queens includes Angeria Paris VanMichaels, Bosco, Daya Betty, Deja Skye, Jasmine Kennedie, Jorgeous, June Jambalaya, Kerri Colby, Kornbread "The Snack" Jete, Lady Camden, Maddy Morphosis, Orion Story, and Willow Pill.

Diversifying 'Drag Race'

Years after host RuPaul's narrow-minded comments on who can compete on Drag Race (which he has since apologized for), the show has been making strides when it comes to representation and diversity in its cast.

Just last year, the show cast its first transgender male contestant, Gottmik, who made it all the way to season 13's final four. Earlier this year, Kylie Sonique Love, one of the many out trans women on the competition, won RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 6 crown.

Meanwhile, Drag Race UK featured the contest's first cisgender female performer, Victoria Scone, who identifies as a lesbian in season 3, as well as bisexual performer Scaredy Kat, who had a girlfriend when he was on season 1.
