Disney Plus announces ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ series premiere date

According to an official release on StarWars.com, the series will pick up “ten years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.”
The series follows the events after Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side and became the evil Sith Lord, Darth Vader.
While full plot details or a trailer has not yet been released, the series will reportedly see Obi-Wan watching over a young Luke Skywalker on his home planet of Tatooine.
Along with McGregor and Christensen, series newcomers include Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), Joel Edgerton (Loving), Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), and Benny Safdie (Good Times).

In Oct. 2020, McGregor revealed that filming for Obi-Wan Kenobi would begin in March 2021 following a production delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming for the series wrapped up in Sept. 2021.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is executive produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor, and Joby Harold, and is part of a growing collection of live-action Star Wars series being produced for Disney’s streaming service.
Disney previously announced that 10 Star Wars series will debut on its streaming service.
The expansion of the Star Wars universe on the small screen kicked off with 2019’s The Mandalorian, which was followed up with The Book of Boba Fett in late 2021.
Star Wars: Visions, an anime anthology consisting of nine short films produced by Japanese animation studios telling original stories set within the Star Wars universe, also debuted last year.
Apart from Obi-Wan Kenobi, other Star Wars live-action spinoff series set to premiere on Disney Plus include Lando, The Acolyte, A Droid Story, and The Bad Batch.
