Heads up, horror fans: Netflix is set to release a 20-story Junji Ito anime series
Netflix is turning up the horror genre with its upcoming anime series: Junji Ito Maniac: Tales of the Macabre inspired by the works of acclaimed horror manga artist Junji Ito.
The series will focus on 20 popular stories from Ito such as Souichi, Tomie, andThe Hanging Balloons.
In a teaser video for the project, Ito himself shared that the stories will be animated for the very first time by Netflix's roster of talented artists. He also showcased a few storyboards for the upcoming episodes.
"I'm happy to present a new project based on my manga," Jinjo said. "I've selcted 20 of my stories to be adapted into anime for the first time."

Though the 20 stories will have their first time on the animation block, this wouldn't be the first time that Ito's works will be adapted into the small screen. His famed 1998 Uzumaki manga will also be releasing a four-episode anime adaptation presented by Toonami this October.
Junji Ito Maniac: Tales of the Macabre is slated for a 2023 release exclusively on Netflix.
