What you need to know about ‘Red, White & Royal Blue’—Prime Video’s upcoming gay royal romance film

Have you heard of Red, White & Royal Blue?

Prime Video has just released the official trailer for its upcoming offering that revolves around the Prince of England and the First Son of the United States. Based on the New York Times best-selling book by Casey Mcquiston, the feature film follows the secret romance between the two. 

Prince Henry of Britain and the US’s first son get into a public altercation at a royal event, which drives a wedge in the relationship between the two countries. Both are later placed into a “truce” as damage control by their families and handlers. With the guise of a tentative friendship, the tension turns into something more: a deeper and romantic connection that no one saw coming.

Taylor Zakhar Perez will bring his charm to the new Prime Video film with his portrayal of Alex Claremont Diaz—the son of the President of the United States. He may be a familiar face as he played Marco Valentin Peña in The Kissing Booth 2 and The Kissing Booth 3. 

After his Prince Robert role in the 2021 Cinderella movie, Nicholas Galatzine is yet to don another crown as Prince Henry—the son of the British monarch. 

Equally talented actors will also be joining the cast of Red, White & Royal Blue, including Uma Thurman, who plays Alex’s mother as well as the President of the United States, as well as Clifton Collins Jr., Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, Stephen Fry, Ellie Bamber, Thomas Flynn, Malcolm Atobrah, Akshay Khanna, Sharon D Clarke, Aneesh Sheth, and Juan Castano whose roles are yet to be revealed. 

Who are working behind the scenes?

Red, White & Royal Blue is directed by Matthew López, a Tony Award-winning playwright who is best known for his work in The Inheritance. He also rewrote the script alongside its original writer Ted Malawer. 

Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter from Berlanti Productions, who previously showcased their brilliance in Amazon’s My Policeman, are the executive producers of the film adaptation. 

Red, White & Royal Blue is set to premiere exclusively on Prime Video on Aug. 11.
