Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Dua Lipa, and more: Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ movie cast revealed

Excited to see the fabulous world of Barbie? 

On Tuesday, April 4, Warner Bros. revealed the full cast for the new Barbie movie directed by Greta Gerwig. 

Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling star in the film as Barbie and Ken, respectively. Joining them are Hari Nef, a Barbie doctor; pop star Dua Lipa, who will play mermaid Barbie; Ana Cruz Kayne, a Supreme Court Justice Barbie; Sharon Rooney, a lawyer Barbie; and Emerald Fennell, a midge.

Aside from Ryan Gosling, there are other male characters also identified as Ken, such as Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Scott Evans. Actor Michael Sera is the only character in Barbie’s world who is named Allan. 

Other stars include Issa Rae, a president Barbie; Kate McKinnon, a Barbie who is always “on the splits”; Nicola Coughlan, a diplomat Barbie; Alexandra Shipp, a celebrated author Barbie; and Ritu Arya, a Barbie who has a Pulitzer prize.

Also joining the cast are Sex Education stars Emma Mackey, a Barbie who has a Nobel Prize in Physics and Connor Swindells, one of the humans who will play as an “intern or something.” 

Barbie’s World will likewise feature humans, including Superstore star America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Helen Mirren who will serve as a narrator, Will Ferrer, and Jamie Demetriou.

The making of the Barbie movie was first reported in 2014, with Sony as the distributor and Amy Schumer supposedly starring as Barbie. The latter, however, had to drop the project due to "scheduling conflicts." 

In 2018, it was reported that Mattel has a studio partner and that Margot Robbie will play the titular role. The movie further gained buzz last year after Robbie and Gosling were spotted filming around Venice Beach.

Barbie The Movie will revolve around the adventures of Barbie and Ken as they start their journey in the real world. It's set to hit the theaters on July 21. Watch the teaser trailer below:
