’13 Going on 30′ musical adaptation coming in 2024
Fan of chick flicks? 13 Going on 30 has joined the party of classic films getting a musical adaptation.
According to a report by Variety on Friday, Sept. 29 (PHT), the 2004 classic chick flick is back to stage a musical helmed once again by the film’s original writers, Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa.
The show will be directed by Andy Fickman, while the music and lyrics will be written by Michael Weiner and Alan Zachary. Its cast is yet to be announced.
The project was first announced in 2016 and will finally have its premiere in 2024.
Meanwhile, the production will be holding a two-week workshop at the Battersea Arts Centre in London, U.K. Afterwards, it will have four "script in hand" live presentations from Oct. 25 to 28.
“When we poured our middle school pain into the movie 13 Going on 30, we never quite imagined it would stick around to this day as a rom-com parents show their kids, a Halloween costume, a scene in an Ariana Grande music video, and a teen sleepover staple,” said Goldsmith and Yuspa.
“Now we’re thrilled to be bringing our pain across the pond with 13 Going on 30 The Musical," they added.
13 Going on 30 follows the story of Jenna Rink, a 13-year-old girl who got her birthday wish of becoming “thirty, flirty, and thriving” granted overnight. She has then found herself in an adult life—having a luxurious apartment, a thriving career, and a boyfriend. It stars Christa B. Allen (young Jenna) and Jennifer Garner (adult Jenna). Also included in the cast are Mark Ruffalo, Brie Larson, and Judy Greer, among others.
