YG Entertainment will reportedly debut their youngest girl group with teen members
Korean talent agency YG Entertainment is set to debut an all-new girl group this year.
“It is true that YG is preparing to launch a new girl group,” a source shared on the contemporary female website Hypebae. This would mark the company’s latest girl group venture since BLACKPINK's debut in 2016, though they have been coy on the details so far.
Reports have also suggested that the upcoming group will comprise of YG’s youngest members to date.
Though it’s common practice in the K-pop industry to start their professional training at a young age, this will serve as YG’s first venture into debuting the so-called “elite teens.”
The average age of YG’s first hit girl group, 2NE1, during their debut was 20. Meanwhile, BLACKPINK’s Jennie, Rosé, Jisoo, and Lisa were all within the ages of 19 and 21 when they were introduced to the industry.
The reported elite group will have big shoes to fill, as 2NE1 and BLACKPINK have both set the gold standard of YG's girl groups with their cultural impact, record-breaking hits, and luxury brand deals.
