New gameplay footage and indies highlight Sony's July State of Play

Sony’s State of Play, the semi-regular digital event that showcases the company’s latest PlayStation news, updates, reveals, and announcements just aired earlier today, with not much big news for the second-half of the year.

Among a few of the 30-minute show’s highlights was Moss: Book 2, Death Stranding: Director’s Cut, and Deathloop. There seems to also be an abundance of indie games for this State of Play. Sadly, there were no updates or teasers for the much-awaited Horizon: Forbidden West or the follow-up to God of War.

Nevertheless, here is what Sony has up in their sleeves:

Adorable mouse hero returns for Moss: Book 2

The virtual reality (VR) puzzle platform adventure game Moss is back with an upcoming sequel, Moss: Book 2. Developer Polyarc revealed the trailer, however a release date is yet to be announced.

It picks up right after the events of the first game. Moss, after rescuing her uncle, Argus, a new foe has risen to lead the Arcane forces in order to pursue her in the same castle where Argus was held captive. Throughout this brand new world-saving adventure, Moss will surely encounter old colleagues and make new friends.

The first installment of Moss was released back in 2018 for PlayStation 4 and was later carried on to Windows PC and is compatible with the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Oculus Quest.

Arcadegeddon unveiled, early access starts now

Next up the list is the brand new colorful third-person multiplayer shooter Arcadegeddon that can be played solo or with four players through co-op multiplayer.

"Rise up and play with up to three friends in this ever-evolving cooperative multiplayer shooter. Explore multiple biomes, mini-games, find hidden chests, and defeat numerous enemies and bosses."

Currently, the game’s early access is already up on the Epic Games Store and is available both on PlayStation 5 and PC. The full launch is set for a 2022 release.

Another battle royale heading for PS4 and PS5

Hunter’s Arena: Legends is also on its way to PlayStation 4 and 5 this August as part of PS Plus. The battle royale game, wherein 30 players battle their way to survive while testing their wits, set in ancient Asia.

Players are hunters who must use swordplay and martial arts to defeat demons and rival hunters. The game is also available on PC.

Tribes of Midgard updates

Tribes of Midgard, a Norse mythology-focused RPG, that will be coming out this month, and with its initial release is the first among the seasonal updates that will add more content and new features in the game.

The multiplayer RPG survival game is developed by Norsfell and published by Gearbox Publishing. Players get to play as Einherjar—a glorious Viking hero who’s been living in Valhalla who is then picked by the Valkyries to descend from the heavens and protect Midgard.

Season 1: The Wolf Saga comes out along with the base game. It will bring in new bosses, classes, and loot. Found in the base are eight classes to unlock and choose, Saga Mode which is the story quest for the game, and even Survival which is the sandbox mode.

Tribes of Midgard is releasing on July 27 and is available on PS4, PS5, and PC

FIST: Forged In Shadow Torch launches for PS4 and PS5 on September

The 2D Metroidvania-style platformer just got a brand new trailer that highlights the game’s official release date. FIST: Forged In Shadow or F.I.S.T. is set to be available on September 7 this year on PS4, PS5, and PC.

Developed by Bilibili and published by TiGames, FIST: Forged In Shadow follows Rayton, a rabbit who has been in hiding for the past six years ever since the machines took over his city. When one of his friends is kidnapped, Rayton comes out of hiding in order to face the machines.

Lost Judgement free upgrade for PS4 and Xbox One

The Yakuza spin-off, Lost Judgement will have a free upgrade for PS4 and Xbox One. SEGA also unveiled three versions of the game like the Digital Ultimate Version and a story expansion set in Kamurocho and Ijincho. The new trailer also features the English localization of the game.

Lost Judgment will be released on September 24, 2021, for both new generation and last generation consoles. This means it will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Availability on PC is yet to be determined. 

Sifu release date delayed

The combat kung-fu video game by Sloclap revealed that Sifu’s release date was delayed and was pushed back to early 2022. Nevertheless, the fight club game dropped a new teaser during the broadcast.

Sifu is expected to be released on PS4, PS5, and PC.

JETT: The Far Shore release not delayed

On the other hand, the space adventure video game by Superbrothers is luckily not delayed and is slated for release later this year. 

Base on the trailer, the game is not combat-heavy and instead it aims to respect the mysterious oceans of space. Players take the role of a jett scout, using their ship to explore the world and investigate the creatures that inhabit it, as well as investigating the source of the “hymnwave.”

Jett: The Far Shore is set to arrive on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and the Epic Games Store.

Get into the Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles hype!

An additional extended look into the much-awaited anime game by SEGA was also revealed during Sony’s State of Play, but not anything new. The Demon Slayer game is still up for an October release and will be playable on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and on PC.
