SB19's Pablo addresses inner battles, society's unrealistic demands in solo debut 'La Luna'
Pablo of Pinoy Pop sensation SB19 just made his highly anticipated solo debut with his new single, La Luna.
La Luna's official music video has also premiered on Pablo's YouTube account late Jan. 28. It already has over 170,000 views and 43,000 likes as of writing.
The song, written and executive produced by Pablo himself, explores the persona's inner battles as he tries to meet the unrealistic demands of society. Eventually, he realizes that what's actually needed is to embrace one's self fully, imperfections and all.
La Luna showcases Pablo's raspy voice and his rapping chops, as well as a layered arrangement that primarily utilizes trap-style drums.
The music video has cinematic undertones, featuring Pablo in a kimono across different locations, including an abandoned room, a prison cell, and a field of trees against the backdrop of a huge full moon.
The video also made use of grayscale hues all throughout, with Pablo in shackles as referenced in the song's lyrics.
Pablo, in a statement about the creative process behind his single, said that “To be mentally healthy, we need to come to terms with ourselves, that what we feel is valid. We shouldn’t suppress it just so we can please everyone and avoid confrontation."
"There will always be black in white and white in black. We should maintain balance within us. That’s how we remain sane and alive,” he added.
#PABLOLaLuna and #PABLOLaLunaMVOutNow have been on Twitter's trending topics, based on Twitter trends tracker trends24. There are over 500,000 and 250,000 tweets, respectively, bearing the hashtag since the song dropped.
Pablo is the second member of SB19 to go solo, after Ken released his Palayo in September 2021.
