Marvel Studios has released the first official trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, offering fans a glimpse of what’s to come to the multiversal plotline of the highly-anticipated sequel to Benedict Cumberbatch’s 2016 superhero film.

Posted on YouTube shortly after the finale of Marvel’s Hawkeye, the two-minute clip shows the events after Tom Holland’s Spider-Way: No Way Home, with Cumberbatch’s Dr. Stephen Strange teaming up with Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in a bid to fix the disarrayed multiverse.

In the trailer, we see Strange as he tries to wrap his head around the repercussions of the spell he cast in No Way Home, which further delved into the multiverse storyline in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"Your desecration of reality will not go unpunished," Baron Mordo’s ominous voice tells Strange as he enters a Mirror Dimension of New York City.

The clip also showed off several sequences including glimpses of Dr. Christine Palmer’s wedding, a beaten Sorcerer Supreme Wong, a bus-flinging squid cyclops that’s believed to be Shuma-Gorath, and what appears to be the evil version of Stephen Strange from Disney Plus’ animated series What If...?

"Things just got out of hand,” his alternate version tells himself as Mordo reminds him that “the greatest threat to our universe is you.”

Aside from the trailer, Marvel Studios also released a new poster for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, hinting that aside from Strange, the Scarlet Witch will also play a major role in the upcoming film. Check out the poster below:

Last November, The Hollywood Reporter said that the upcoming Marvel film will be undergoing six weeks of major reshoots, which include “additional photography.” Director Sam Raimi remains at the helm while Loki head writer Michael Waldron is writing the new material.

A source, however, explained that additional reshoots are normal, saying that “even while in the middle of production, Marvel is scheduling you for more shooting.”

“Like everything with Marvel, it comes in fresh, pretty much, most mornings,” Cumberbatch’s response when asked about the reshoots during an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. “It’s really exciting, and the film is shaping up to be something special.”

Aside from Cumberbatch, additional cast members for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness include Benedict Wong (Wong), Rachel McAdams (Christine Palmer), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Mordo), Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff) and Xochitl Gomez, who will portray Marvel comics’ new fan-favorite, America Chavez.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to hit theaters on May 6, 2022.
