Hello Kitty is getting a live-action movie adaptation
It’s audience catnip.
After the success of live-action/animated films like Detective Pokemon and Sonic the Hedgehog, a certain Sanrio cat is now getting her time in the spotlight.
Hello Kitty is set to get the Hollywood animated treatment sometime soon, with production companies New Line Cinema and FlynnPictureCo. slating directors Jennifer Coyle (Harley Quinn Animated Series, King of the Hill) and Leo Matsuda (Zootopia, Big Hero 6) to helm the project.
With the goal to bring the world of Hello Kitty to a Western audience, Coyle shared that “this is not only a rare chance to bring a beloved character to life, but also to spread the message of love, friendship, and inclusivity that Hello Kitty stands for.”
“The world so needs her brand of joy and happiness.”

News of a live-action Hello Kitty film was first announced in 2019. Not much is known about the upcoming film just yet, as further details are currently kept under wraps amid the pandemic.
Once released, it will be Sanrio’s first film produced outside of Japan in its 60-year history.
