‘Squid Game’ creator hints at what to expect in season 2
Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, has dropped a few hints regarding the hit South Korean show’s second season and potential release date.
In an interview with Vanity Fair published Wednesday (May 18) the creator said that the show’s second season would be even more dramatic than its first.
He also revealed that the second season of the hit dystopian series would question whether humanity can conquer all as a united front.
“Humanity is going to be put to a test through those games once again,” said Dong-Hyuk.
He added, “I want to ask the question, ‘Is true solidarity between humans possible?'”

Dong-hyuk pointed out that the disconnect among players accounted for the many deaths in the show's first season.
“If they were capable of talking with one another, of co-operating with one another, I do agree that there could have been a possibility that we could have seen more winners,” he added.
The second season is set to arrive on Netflix either in 2023 or 2024.
The Squid Game creator said he already has three pages of ideas about season two and is in talks with Netflix to determine the show’s future.
The first season of Squid Game, released in 2021, followed a group of people attempting to pay off their debts by participating in childlike games with a violent twist. The more of them that died, the more money they could win.

Hwang Dong-hyuk told Vaniy Fair that when he first wrote Squid Game's script, no one was interested. “People were telling me that it’s too unrealistic.” It was too absurd, they said, and far too violent. But a few years later, with Netflix on board, Hwang managed to expand his initial film script into a series.
For the June 2022 issue of VF's Awards Insider, Hwang, along with stars Lee Jung-jae, Hoyeon, and Park Hae-soo, opened up about the global phenomenon—and what to expect from its second season.
In April, Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed that season two of the acclaimed series would return with two actors from the past season.
“Gi-hun for sure. He will be back. I believe the Front Man will be back too,” he said.
Seong Gi-hun, also known as Player 456 is the main protagonist portrayed by Lee.
Lee Byung-hun, who played the role of Squid Game overseer Hwang In-ho, is also expected for a return in season two of the dystopian drama.
In its first season, Squid Game became Netflix’s most popular series yet with an estimated 142 million viewership in four weeks. The global smash hit topped the Netflix charts in over 90 countries.
