Trigger Warning: Disturbing. Unsettling. Terrifying.

Fans of true crime shows, take note. If you're the type who enjoys watching gruesome and stressful mysteries, there are a lot of true-crime shows and documentaries to watch just on Netflix alone.

The Watcher, which premiered last October 13, is the latest dark true crime series from Dahmer creators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. But in case you're in the mood for even more hair-raising crime shows this horror season, take a look back at some other similar shows recently released on Netflix.

The Watcher

This limited series is inspired by the frightening true account of the infamous "Watcher" mansion in New Jersey. The Watcher features a married couple played by Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale who move into a new suburban home. The couple end end up being terrified and harassed through letters signed by "The Watcher," a stalker who follows their every move, after moving into their dream home.

The Puppet Master: Hunting the Ultimate ConMan

This terrifying three-part docuseries tells the bizarre tale of a ruthless con artist posing as a British spy who manipulates and takes money from a number of victims that he duped into thinking he was an MI5 agent, leaving his victims devastated.

The Tinder Swindler

The Israeli conman Simon Leviev, who poses as a wealthy, jet-setting diamond magnate, used Tinder to connect with people whom he  emotionally blackmailed into supporting his extravagant lifestyle by saying that he needed the money to flee his enemies. Felicity Morris directed this British true crime documentary film, which reveals how a number of women contributed to his downfall. This series became one of Netflix's most watched documentaries of 2022.

Worst Roommate Ever

A murderous granny, a devoted lover, a hustler who runs marathons, and a serial squatter. This documentary series presents harrowing real-life situations in which unassuming, helpful, and friendly roommates prove to be the complete opposite of the perfect roommate. The show also looks at the dynamics of human nature and the complexity of interactions between strangers. These horrifying factual accounts in this collection expose some of the worst instances of cohabitation imaginable.

Most Hated Man on the Internet

This docuseries tells the tale of Hunter Moore, a convicted felon who ran the pornographic website "Is Anyone Up," which was built using stolen and hacked images. It also tells the tale of a mother who confronted Moore after seeing pictures of her daughter's naked pictures online and stood up against him.

The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes

Interviews with people who knew Marilyn in real life are included in this documentary, along with their concerns following her tragically untimely passing. Emma Cooper, the director, tells the story of the cultural icon's life and untimely demise through archival material and previously unreleased interviews with the star's friends. The story of Marilyn Monroe is also recounted through the prism of contemporary celebrity culture, which goes by the maxim "The brighter the star, the darker the truth."

Girl in the Picture

This chilling true-crime film, which was directed by Skye Borgman, tells the tale of a young mother who mysteriously died, her body being discovered with a severe head injury, and the subsequent kidnapping of her son, revealing a decades-long mystery about the woman's true identity and the murderous federal fugitive at the center of everything. The filmmaker and editors worked with a variety of complex and contradicting materials, including interviews with investigators, memories from yearbooks, and decades-old photographs. These components then provide fresh players and new leads to offer context and create fresh puzzles to be solved.

Inventing Anna

The Shonda Rhimes limited series Inventing Anna took inspiration from the actual Anna Delvey/Sorokin case along with Jessica Pressler's piece in New York headlined "How Anna Delvey Tricked New York's Party People". However, as Netflix's disclaimers state, part of the show also fictionalized the story. The documentary Inventing Anna looks into the case of Anna Delvey, a German heiress who became an Instagram legend and stole the hearts and money of New York's social scene.

Night Stalker: The Hunt For a Serial Killer

A nocturnal monster responsible for a string of seemingly unrelated killings and sexual assaults in 1985 must be stopped, and young detective Gil Carillo and renowned homicide investigator Frank Salerno are in a race against time to do so. Richard Ramirez, one of the most renowned serial killers in American history, is the subject of this four-part true crime documentary miniseries.

Don’t F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer

A team of online detectives embarks on a perilous manhunt that takes them into a dark underworld after being inspired by a deranged criminal's gruesome videos. A gang of internet justice seekers search down a man who posted a video of himself killing cats. The unsettling documentary is recounted from the perspective of people responsible for the criminal's arrest.
