iPhone tips: How to FaceTime your friends on Android and Windows

Published Sep 22, 2021 3:13 pm

Finally, FaceTime isn't exclusive for Apple users anymore. Through iOS 15, you can call up Android and Windows users via FaceTime on your iPhone.

The update makes the video conferencing app work a lot like Zoom or Google Meet, actually. You can set up a link to set up a virtual hangout.

First, your iPhone needs to be running on iOS 15 so update your device first if you're still on the old operating system.

Open the FaceTime app and tap on Create Link. A prompt will slide up where you can add a name for your chat. In this same panel, you'll see different options to share the FaceTime link like through AirDrop, iMessage, email, Twitter, and more. You can also just copy and paste the link to send to your friends.

Unlike Zoom or Google Meet, FaceTime won't send your friends the time your call is scheduled so it's best to inform them when you send over the link.

Once you're done with the details, the scheduled link will appear on top of your FaceTime app. To start the call, tap on the name of the link then press Join.

The users you invited will be taken to a waiting room pending your approval to join. To let them in the call, tap a check next to their names.

If you want more people to join while you're in the call, just tap on the video chat's name to show the settings menu. Here you can choose to add others, switch the call layout, or silence join requests.
