Filipino-Canadian couple wins lottery twice, racks up P46 million in 8 months
It’s already a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to win the lottery, but Filipino-Canadian couple Liezl Panganiban and Edgar Ebreo have beaten the odds twice.
The British Columbia-based couple was already taking a breather from winning $500,000 (P19.5 million once converted from Canadian dollars) from an Extra Lotto 6/49 draw in September 2020 when a spontaneous scratch card purchase doubled their riches to the tune of $675,000 (P26.4 million).
In the span of less than a year, from September 2020 to May 2021, the couple amassed a total of $1,175,000, or P46 million, from their double lottery wins.
“When I saw the three cash symbols, I couldn't believe it, so I showed Edgar,” Liezl shared through a statement. Meanwhile, Edgar started dancing to the nearly impossible news. Who wouldn’t?
The general chances of someone winning the lottery at any given time are astronomically low at 1 in 13,983,816. Though the pair’s second win was through a scratch-off, their sheer luck can’t be denied.
The couple says that they’re planning to celebrate with their family and take a vacation in Hawaii once the pandemic is over. For now, they’ll be setting aside the money to pay off their mortgage.
