Jacob Elordi replaces Andrew Garfield as Frankenstein's monster in upcoming Guillermo del Toro film
Looks like Hollywood can't get enough of Jacob Elordi.
The 6'5 Australian actor is set to play the monster in Netflix's upcoming movie adaptation of Frankenstein with Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro.
Other stars who have been announced to be part of the film include Oscar Isaac, who will play Dr. Victor Frankenstein, Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, and Felix Kammerer.
Previously, Andrew Garfield was supposed to be Frankenstein's monster but the strike causing delays in projects caused scheduling conflicts, Deadline reported.
The upcoming film will be based on the classic Mary Shelly novel where Victor Frankenstein brings a creature to life by putting together dead body parts. However, the specimen turns out to be a monstrous being Victor and mankind reject.
Aside from directing, del Toro will be writing and producing the film. No release date has been set yet.
Frankenstein will be del Toro's second film with Netflix following the Academy Award-winning Pinocchio in 2022. He also released a horror anthology series for the streamer titled Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities.
In the past year, Elordi has been part of big films—he played Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola's Priscilla and starred in the dark comedy Saltburn. The 26-year-old Aussie has also been in The Kissing Booth movies, HBO's Euphoria, and The Sweet East.
On X (formerly Twitter), social media users have been sharing mixed reactions, with some saying picking Elordi is a good choice while others were sad to see Garfield drop the role.
"Jacob Elordi's 6'5 ass playing Frankenstein's monster is kinda genius casting idk," one user wrote.
"Okay so this is Jacob Elordi's year and I'm here for it," another commented.
"We wanted Andrew!" said one user.
"Elordi is a fine actor, but I am mourning the [loss] of Andrew Garfield [from Frankenstein] HARD," added another.
There have been several movie adaptations of Frankenstein's monster over the years with stars Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney Jr., Fred Gwynne, and Robert De Niro playing the creature.
