'The Batman' theatrical release delayed to 2022
Those who are looking forward to see Robert Pattinson don the cape and cowl will sadly have to wait a bit longer after Warner Bros. delayed the theatrical release of the much-awaited reboot of The Batman to 2022.
According to a report by Variety, the release date of Matt Reeve’s The Batman has been pushed back from October 1, 2021 to March 4, 2022. The studio also delayed the release dates of Ezra Miller’s The Flash from June 3, 2022 to November 4, 2022 as well as Shazam 2, which will now debut in the big screen on June 2, 2023 instead of November 4, 2022.
Meanwhile, Keanu Reeves will return to the Matrix sooner than previously expected as the fourth installment in the franchise will now debut on December 22, 2021 from April 1, 2022. As for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, the sci-fi epic starring Timothée Chalamet will now premiere on October 1, 2021 instead of December 18, 2020.
Filming of Matt Reeves’ highly-awaited retelling of the Dark Knight has resumed last month after a hiatus for COVID-19 quarantine precautions. It was previously reported that Pattinson was the person who tested positive for COVID-19. However, the studio has not revealed the identity of the individual who contracted the virus.
The cast of DC’s upcoming film includes Andy Serkis as Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler Alfred, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman and Paul Dano as the Riddler. The Batman was originally scheduled to hit theaters in June 2021 but was pushed back due to filming delays caused by the pandemic.
