MMFF 2023 expands lineup, announces remaining entries for 49th edition

The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) announced the remaining entries for this year—and expanded the lineup from eight movies to 10.

The MMFF, in a Facebook Live session on Oct. 17, showed the trailers of the following movies selected by the committee for its 49th edition:

  • When I Met You in Tokyo (romance): starring Christopher de Leon and Vilma Santos
  • Becky and Badette (comedy): starring Eugene Domingo and Pokwang
  • Mallari (suspense): starring Piolo Pascual and Janella Salvador
  • Firefly (fantasy): starring Alessandra de Rossi and Cherry Pie Picache
  • Broken Hearts Trip (comedy): starring Christian Bables and Andoy Ranay
  • GomBurZa (historical): starring Enchong Dee, Dante Rivero, Piolo Pascual, and Cedrick Juan 

Last July, the MMFF announced its first four entries, namely:

  • A Mother and Son’s Story (drama): starring Sharon Cuneta and Alden Richards
  • K(Ampon) (horror-thriller): starring Beauty Gonzales and Derek Ramsay
  • Penduko (fantasy): starring Matteo Guidicelli and Cristine Reyes
  • Rewind (romance): starring Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes

The MMFF received a total of 26 scripts from 32 production companies this year. In 2022, it got 22 submissions.

Scripts were selected based on the following criteria: artistic excellence (40%), commercial appeal (40%), Filipino cultural sensibility (10%), and global appeal (10%). 

The MMFF will take place in December.
