Beatrice Luigi Gomez looking into the possibility of playing professional volleyball for PVL

Will Beatrice Luigi Gomez play professionally in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) one day?

According to a report by The Philippine STAR's Joaquin Henson, Gomez said that a team recently reached out to her family.

"A team contacted my mom if I could play (professional) volleyball very soon and I’m looking into it. I’m excited, but I’m still thinking about it,” Gomez was quoted in the report as saying.

PVL president Ricky Palou has expressed his openness to the idea of having her in the league, but cautioned the beauty queen to exercise due diligence.

“If anyone has approached her to play in the PVL, Bea should first find out which team she is talking to. There have been cases where a person tries to recruit a player only to find out the team is non-existent,” he said.

The beauty queen has always kept an active lifestyle. Not only is she a proud member of the Philippine Navy Reserve Unit, but she’s also a sports enthusiast.

The self-proclaimed MMA fan has tried her hand at different types of sports—from boxing to scuba diving. Among the ones she has played the longest is volleyball, which helped fund her education from high school to college through an athletic scholarship. “Being a part of the volleyball varsity team is not just something I take as an achievement, but it is something that really changed my life for the better because I was able to help my mom in some way and I was able to make her proud,” she said in an introduction video posted by the Miss Universe Philippines organization in December.

She has competed in various tourneys like the Nestea Beach Volleyball and Milo Olympics as a varsity player. The first beauty title she has ever bagged was Miss Cebu City Olympics 2010, when she was just 15 years old.

Gomez represented the country at the 70th Miss Universe pageant, where she placed fifth. She once likened her journey to the highly coveted crown to the sport, saying, “It’s the same as playing volleyball. You’ve got to be mentally and physically in condition.”
