Watch: Jennifer Aniston shakes Emmys 2020 with 'Friends' co-stars
Held virtually with a huge screen of screens featuring the nominees watching from home, this year's 2020 Emmys didn't require a big, live crowd and canned laughter to entertain. All it needed was to tap the charming Jimmy Kimmel as host, and throw a classic comic in Jennifer Aniston in some of the segments.
Aniston appeared on the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards as if to "save" the awards show, arranged via new normal measures due to the coronavirus. Still looking graceful at 51, Jen wore her signature tan and golden locks in a silky LBD to name the nominees for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series—one she herself had won for Friends in 2002.
Right away, Aniston went straight to work with a funny, supposedly social distancing-abiding banter with Kimmel.
"Why are you standing so far away from me?" Aniston greeted Jimmy, almost shouting from a distance.
"Oh, Dr. Fauci said 60 feet so..." Kimmel replied.
"Sixty feet? No, he said six feet!" Aniston, acting astonished, replied.
Kimmel only took it as a compliment, "Oh, thank you! You also have sexy feet!"
The duo appeared again to announce the Emmy Winner (Schitt's Creek's Catherine O'Hara), then sealed in an envelope they had to "sanitize" on live TV. The two burned and then extinguished it as if to disinfect further.
Kimmel then had to break it to Aniston that she being a nominee should also be at home with the awards to be delivered to the winners' doorsteps anyway.
Aniston, nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Apple TV+'s The Morning Show, had to exit the venue right away.
But that wasn't Aniston's last appearance that night, as she corresponded live with Kimmel from home via monitor. The twist: She had her Friends costars Courtney Cox and Lisa Kudrow watching with her!
"We’ve been roommates since 1994, Jimmy," Aniston said, referencing Friends' pilot back in September 1994. (The show, of course, would become a long-runner, concluding only in 2004!)
Aniston had Jason Bateman join, too, after he "crashed" the Emmys earlier. She then explained to a surprised Kimmel that Bateman's staying with them "just until he goes off to college."
"I appreciate the support. It's so nice that you guys are gathered around the monitor, watching the show. And thanks again for coming earlier, too, Jen," Kimmel rattled on, with Aniston and the rest leaving the host hanging for, yes, dinner.
"We’ll be watching! Dinner’s ready, we’re DVRing it!" blurted Aniston, before finally exiting the screen.
