Tom Holland unsure ‘what the future holds’ amid expiring Marvel contract

After the title release of his third film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), actor Tom Holland revealed that his longtime contract with Marvel is set to expire soon.

In an interview with GQ, the 24-year-old actor shared that Spider-Man: No Way Home could well be his last film with the franchise, as his contract with the Disney-led films only stipulates three solo Spider-Man films.

“We haven’t got long filming now and it’s quite sad, because this is the end of my contract after this film is up,” Holland shared. “I really don’t know what the future holds, so I am just savoring every moment, as it could potentially be the last.”

Before we wipe any tears though, an expired contract doesn’t automatically mean that we won’t see Holland's awkward Peter Parker forever, as it could just mean that he's won't be appearing in any MCU films immediately after Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Tom’s post-No Way Home plans? Travel and skiing apparently, as he shared that they’re something he’s been planning to do away from Marvel’s tight hold on his physical health.

“I’m going to take a break and travel the world. It's the first time since I signed on to [Spider-Man] that I don't have a contract with someone. I might go skiing because that's something I've not really been allowed to do because it's obviously a dangerous sport,” he shared with USA Today.

I really don’t know what the future holds, so I am just savoring every moment, as it could potentially be the last.

Considering he’s one of the frontrunners in the MCU's Phase 4 films, it seems unlikely to see Disney letting go of their seasoned star this soon, but Holland assured fans that he’s willing to extend his Marvel contract “in a heartbeat” if given the chance.

“...I’ve always said to them if they want me back I’ll be there in a heartbeat. I’ve loved every minute of being a part of this amazing world. It’s changed my life for the better, I’m so lucky to be here. If they want me back I’ll be there, if they don’t I will walk off into the sunset a very, very happy person because it’s been an amazing journey.”
