Julia Garner cast as Silver Surfer in upcoming 'Fantastic Four' film
Marvel's Fantastic Four reboot has found its Silver Surfer.
Emmy-winning actress Julia Garner has been cast as Shalla-Bal, a version of the Silver Surfer from the comics, entertainment outlet Deadline reported.
The Inventing Anna star joins the rest of the Fantastic Four cast, which includes Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (the Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (the Thing).
WandaVision director Matt Shakman is helming the forthcoming film, which is set for a July 25, 2025 release date.
In the 2007 film Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, the Silver Surfer was portrayed by Doug Jones and voiced by Laurence Fishburne.
The character, first introduced by Jack Kirby in the 48th issue of the Fantastic Four comic book in 1966 as Norrin Radd, is a humanoid alien with metallic skin and powers like superhuman strength, speed, and endurance. He became the Herald of Galactus to save his planet and his lover, Shallah-Bal, the version of the character Julia will play.
Julia is a three-time Emmy winner known for her roles as Ruth Langmore on Ozark, con artist Anna Delvey in Inventing Anna.
The upcoming Fantastic Four reboot will be Marvel's third try at the franchise following its 2005 film (starring Iaoan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis, and Julia McMahon) and 2015 movie (starring Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell).
The film will be part of Marvel Studios' Phase Six alongside movies Thunderbolts, Blade, Avengers 5, and Avengers: Secret Wars.
