WATCH: ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ prologue trailer drops online

Published Nov 24, 2021 1:09 pm

Universal Pictures has released a special prologue for Jurassic World: Dominion which is set to premiere in theaters on June 10, 2022.

The film is the third in the Jurassic World trilogy and sixth installment in the Jurassic Park franchise.

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are both reprising their roles as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing in Dominion, along with legacy heroes Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum).

After originally being released as an IMAX exclusive attached to Fast and Furious 9, the clip was finally released online Wednesday (Nov. 24).

The special footage, which will not be featured in the film, acts as a separate beginning to the whole Jurassic World franchise, taking fans back millions of years to a prehistoric world when dinosaurs ruled the earth.

Jurassic World: Dominion was originally slated to hit the big screen on June 11, 2021 before being delayed a whole year.

The film was the first major studio movie to go back into production after the pandemic enforced lockdowns in spring and derailed the entire movie industry in 2020.

It was revealed back in June that the film will include seven new species of never-before-seen dinosaurs in a Jurassic film, including a couple that were only relatively recently discovered by real-world paleontologists.

The clip shows the tiny Moros intrepidus, a feathered dinosaur that comes from the genus of the Tyrannosaur family.

Other new dinosaur species that will be featured in the upcoming film include the Dreadnoughts (a sauropod similar to the Brachiosaurus), the winged Quetzalcoatlus (larger than the flying Pteranodons), Oviraptor (feathered dinosaurs that steal eggs), horned Nasutoceratops, Iguanadon, and the huge new apex predator Gigantosaurus, according to ScreenRant.

The prologue shows dinosaurs peacefully coexisting with each other, as well as bugs and birds, as they go through their lives. However, the peace is disturbed when two dinos fight to the death. We see the all-important mosquito guzzling blood from one of the fallen dinosaurs before the prologue flashes forward 65 million years later.

A T-Rex is shown crashing a drive-in movie theater, flipping cars and terrorizing civilians as a helicopter flies above, trying to shoot it down with a tranquilizer gun before it runs off.

"To me, [Dominion] is a culmination of one story that's been told. When you got to the end of the Jurassic Park trilogy, it may not have been as clear in what the complete story of those three movies was because they were a bit more episodic in the way that they were approached. But this trilogy is not that way. It's very much a serialized story,” director Colin Trevorrow previously told EW in an interview.

According to the filmmaker, Dominion represents a celebration of the entire franchise.

“What was important for me was, when you watch Dominion, you really feel like you are learning how much of a story that first set of movies was and how everything that happened in those movies actually informs what ultimately is able to happen in this. If kids who are born today are going to be presented with six Jurassic Park movies—you hope the parents will buy them the box set—you hope they are going to get to feel like they watch one long story,"  Trevorrow added.
