This Filipina’s kawaii apartment in Japan is every pink lover’s dream
It’s been said that one of the keys to having a happy life as a woman is to remember and fulfill what made you excited as a little girl.
Meet Midori Matsui, a half-Japanese half-Filipino freelance artist/illustrator living in Tokyo with an undeniably pretty in pink apartment that could soothe every girly girl’s inner child. We first saw her eye-catching apartment in the popular Home Buddies Facebook group, but her apartment already has a steady following to the tune of 129,000 Instagram followers.
With its pink interior, anime-filled aesthetic, and racks filled with rosy-colored gaming consoles, Midori is authentically in her element with the unit that’s got us thinking pink.
Speaking with PhilSTAR L!fe, Midori shared that she’s been a lifelong lover of everything pink and kawaii, but it was when she moved to Japan two years ago that her interest started to bloom into fruition.
“I think I just got really into it early 2019, after moving to Tokyo and got to start a new life and build a new space from scratch,’ she shared.
“To be honest I really have no idea how many pink items I have anymore! I get various stuff every week or so, and my room is now full of random stuff that I like. Whenever I need to buy a particular thing, I always find and go for a color pink option.”
With Tokyo being the global hub of all things kawaii and anime, it isn’t difficult for Midori to find inspiration to collect whichever new swag piques her interest. Amid the pandemic, her favorite resources are Amazon and its local counterpart, Mercari Japan.
“It's pretty easy to find gaming and anime goods as they are readily available here. But I'm pretty sure you can find anything locally if you know where to look. Utilize social media and the internet!”
Her next big pink purchase? Midori is eyeing a brand new iPhone once they release a pink version.
With the tech giant recently releasing a purple variant along with its bright coral iPhone XR, it wouldn’t be surprising if a light pink colorway is next, designed for soft pink enthusiasts like Midori.
As for her advice for anyone that wants to start their collection of their own, she stresses that it’s still important to consider your cash flow and budget when it comes to collecting of any kind—everything in moderation, after all.
“First, just allot a budget that suits your lifestyle. A collection takes time to build so do it at your own pace, you don't have to have everything all at once.”
"Lastly," she enthuses, "don't be like me who almost always impulse buy things and use up my savings!”
Yours may be pink or blue, cluttered or minimalistic, but Midori's pink home proves that it's never too late to fill your space with what makes your soul sing! With her apartment now slowly but surely getting packed with the things she loves, she shared that she could be expanding soon to have more space for her happy collection.
“I live in a small apartment so it's getting really cluttered now, so I'm thinking of moving to a bigger place!”
